Hopefully you will. Thanks again. I actually had to turn airplane mode on to get it to connect. I tried changing password, name and everything, but this guide was good enough to help me out. Turned aeroplane mode on and then off again, suddenly it started working again. Just a simple problem solved in 3 minutes.

Got a fix? I bought a HTC One android 4. This was strange because I was using it the whole day and it was perfectly fine. Then when I checked whats wrong, the wifi displays an error. At least for hours, its stuck at Turning on. Then again it displays the error message. I tried restarting the phone, I did a cache clean up and even did a full factory reset. Its still the same.

I still cannot on my wifi. I actually have another guide for that exact issue. I charged it for hours on the wall charger and the laptop but its not charging or even switching on.

Has the phone experienced any damage recently? Sorry to be the barrier of bad news my friend. Definitely look into your warranty options first, if your phone is still covered, as warranty is often the most affordable option available when getting a phone repaired or replaced. Oh thats bad. I purchased it Oh thats bad. I purchased it from Australia while on a holiday. I currently live in Sri Lanka.

I have been informed that there are no authorised service centres here. Does it mean I have to go back to Australia to fix it? Thanks for the info.

How can I fix this? Thank you for the response. Can anyone help please? Missed a really important Skype call yesterday. I usually get diconnected to wifi on my S4 device I use Samsung S4, i observe that, i usually get disconnected to internet.

Your advice on which android app to use helped Thank you for this article. The app you recommended instantly solved my problem. I nearly bought a new phone because of this issue. I have to turn off my phone and remove the battery so i can turn my WIFI on. I actually have a troubleshooting guide for that exact issue. Thanks Thanks James, for this and all the other info you have on your site. But how do you do this? What kind of devices are you trying to connect to each other?

Let me know and I will see what I can do to help. I love helping awesome people like yourself. I got a 16G card as you suggested backed up easily.

I did the reset and tried the portable wifi I wanted to sync with but it already had the password..??? Somehow it must have got it from google that I was invited to rejoin when I did the reset, or from the card, so I took out the SD card and reset again and refused to join google; this time I was able to put in the password and link up fine. The restore of data and apps went well, with only one app not restoring. WiFi connected internet works, but issues in WhatsApp n facebook Hello, I am having issues with my dlink Dir router on my android nexus4.

Internet works fine but apps like Facebook n WhatsApp have issues. My internet connection is dynamic. Ios n windows phone works fine. Do you have any issues when connected to another Wi-Fi network or just on your home Wi-Fi? From your description its sounding more like an app s issue as opposed to a problem with your Wi-Fi or even your Nexus. The first thing that I would do is to double check and to make sure that your apps are up to date. If you use these apps frequently, which is common with social networking apps, then things can pile up quickly as well.

Try going into your Application Manager, clicking on these two apps and clearing the cache. Also try logging out and then logging back into the accounts on those apps. See if it helps at all. How often do you power off your device? Galaxy Note 2 will connect wifi and I can use the internet but.. The email app with the phone itself still works though and so I can receive emails sent to my gmail through my phone app, but not through the gmail app.

Thank you! Tried everything else, found this page and airplane mode worked a gem. Bookmarking it for future connection fails. When i try to turn on wifi is greyed out and says turning on…… but nothing happens i reboot it and it still happens. It could be software related something like a bug or a virus or maybe even just a bad app but it could also be a hardware issue as well, like a bad antenna.

Hopefully its software related as that will be an easier problem to solve. Either way those articles should get you pointed in the right direction. I have never been able to use any Wi-Fi network on any of those phones. Not even a public Wi-Fi like a coffee shop or a restaurant? What Samsung phone do you currently own? A few things can cause a phone to connect to a Wi-Fi network but still not have internet, it really depends. Has your cell phone ever been able to connect to internet through Wi-Fi before?

I assume your mobile internet is working properly? Do you get any error messages if you turn off your mobile data and try to connect through a Wi-Fi? Were you able to do any of the troubleshooting listed in this article above or any of the tips in the advanced troubleshooting guide yet? Technology can be pretty stubborn sometimes, and every now and then smartphones like to think that they are smarter than we are.

Thank you so much for your great advice Thank you so much for your great advice, so thorough and helpful xoxo. WIFI still not working i have done all of these and its still not working. Which cell phone are you trying to connect to Wi-Fi with and what exactly is the phone doing when you try to establish a connection? Either way let me know Gabrielle. Connected to WiFi but no Internet I just want to share.

This may help. Try to check your date and time settings. Put it up to the current date and time. Then try to reconnect to WiFi. Obtainig ip address So how do you install the program if you dont have internet on your phone? Not sure if you still Not sure if you still checking this but I figured I would give it a shot.

A few months ago my Samsung S4 stopped using my wifi at home. It says its connected but then says something about something being blocked because it is trying to access my phone without authorization and I should update security settings. This first started happening after an update at the end of March. The phone had no problems connecting before that. So it says I am connected but then there is no actual internet.

The wifi works in other places like at the bookstore and stuff so I assume its not a problem with the phone. I have to guess that the security message that pops up has to have something to do with it but ive updated all my security settings and there is no new app on my phone that wasnt there when it did work before.

My laptop connects fine with the wifi BUT my kindle has recently stopped connecting to it as well. With this in mind I tried Comcast but they arent any help. We have reset my network, tried manually adding the MAC addresses to the network and it still wont work. Phone still says it connects but has no internet and the kindle seems to just hate. Of course the phone and kindle people are telling me to deal with Comcast but comcast cant find a problem at all since i have a desktop and laptop connecting through the wireless with no problem and both of the small devices USED to work but dont anymore.

Any ideas at this point would be great. I would really like to stop using my data plan on the phone lol. This problem is really annoying me. The desktop is wired directly into the hub and work perfectly, The Laptop and Tablet will connect to the internet on the WiFi but they both will not let me login into websites that require a username and password. The mobile phones work perfectly on the WiFi network. If I use one of the Android phones as a hotspot I can connect to it on my Laptop and it lets me use websites that require a username and password.

I have already swapped out the Hub for another and the fault remains, I have cleared cookies cache memory on all devices and the fault remains. Any ideas? Thanks so much! Sorry to hear that your cell phone is having problems connecting to Wi-Fi. What make and model of cell phone do you have that is having this problem and what version of Android is it currently operating on?

Other than soft resetting and powering your phone off and on which is a good start what other troubleshooting have you done to try and resolve this issue? Make sure to review the entire article above as well as the advanced troubleshooting guide linked to at the bottom of the article. Or it could be a hardware issue and an actual piece of the phone might be damaged, defective, or malfunctioning. If you try the troubleshooting suggestions listed above and your phone simply refuses to show any available networks then you might need to look into your repair or replacement options.

From your description that sounds A LOT more like an issue with your wireless network as opposed to an issue with your Samsung Galaxy S2. Sometimes talking to your ISP can be a little frustrating though so before doing that make sure to review the Advanced Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide as it lists a lot of settings and configurations that you can check on your home Wi-Fi that can cause these types of issues.

Does this only seem to happen with your Samsung Galaxy S 2? Are any of your other devices cell phones, laptops, tablets, smart TVs, etc able to see your home network or do they have issues as well? Try the suggestions listed on that advanced troubleshooting guide though as I think it will help put you on the right path in resolving your particular issue.

Regarding problem in wifi Hi Mr. James, thank you for your suggestion. The issue is that only my samsung s2 mobile cant scan my home wifi, all other devices like my laptop, my iphone, my blackberry can identify the home wifi and connect. I love you!!! I had problems with this for days I love you!!! I had problems with this for days and tried everything, was so frustrated and got onto here.

It was the airplane mode that worked, to turn it on, try to connect and then turn it off! So crazy that worked, stupid phones… But thank you sooo much! Ok before i begin i will let you know that i dont want to do a hard reset unless its the only option. I have a vodafone smart mini i like samsung best but it was a gift and one night while i was at facebook it told me that the battery was overheating, so i closed it. But when i reopened it it couldnt connect to the internet it shows that it has signal but it cant connect.

I tried to close the router and phone as you said but it didnt work. Any suggesstions??? In the settings it says my phone is connected but when I use google play store it wont connect. The wifi icon is also grey. Can you please help me get my phone to connect to the wifi again. Good description of your exact problem Camille, very detailed, and helpful. The exact cause of your issue is kind of hard to pinpoint and here is why.

I am assuming that you tried to flash the stock OS back to the phone? If so then that should have helped rule out a software glitch caused by the rooting too. You also said that you tried a factory reset which could have helped as well, if the issue was software related. So if I was to make an educated guess as to what the actual cause of the problem is… I am thinking that it sounds more like a hardware issue that just happened to occur shortly after rooting.

Sorry to hear that your Samsung W is having Wi-Fi problems. From your very well written and detailed description it sounds more like a hardware issue as opposed to a complication with your Samsungs software. As such I am going to offer the same advice and suggest that you look into your repair or replacement options as it sounds like an actual piece on the device has malfunctioned and will need to be repaired or replaced.

First of all what make and model of phone are you having issues with? Do you have issues connecting to any Wi-Fi network or it only having issues connecting at one location like home or work? You say that when you go into your Wi-Fi settings that your phone says connected but there is no internet connection?

Or is the Wi-Fi switch turned off and or grayed out? Have you downloaded any apps around the time that this happened? What troubleshooting have you tried to do already in order to try and fix it? Have you done any of the suggestions in this article above? Have you reviewed the comments from other readers as well?

If you still need or want help trying to fix the Wi-Fi on your Android smartphone then please, help me help you, by leaving a reply to this post with the answers to those questions. Once I know the particulars I should be able to help you properly. Thanks for visiting the site Aira, I hope to hear back from you soon.

My problem is that my phone… My problem is that my phone connected to Wi-Fi network but no internet so I tried the advice, I unplugged the power cable I counted 15 sec and plug it back in.

Then it works ….. Thanks for this. Thank you very much. Actually my problem is wifi is connected but internet browsing is not working i faced this problem nearly 2 days.

Thank you soooooo much. After many months of no WiFi on my phone, I was finally able to update over 75 apps which kept crashing. All to think just a simple switch to static IP was the solution. Want to thank you for a great site Want to thank you for a great site and all the work you do to help others connect!

I stuck with it, and after my 20th encryption key attempt, I discovered a 1 one was actually a lower case i. It was a silly but sweet victory.

A million thanks. Type the same IP address on your phone. Delete any Gateway address on the phone if not present in PC. Save and connect.

I cant use my phone for researching my tasks in school. Previously I am able to connect and able to online surfing in our WiFi. What should I do else? That sounds like a problem with your Wi-Fi and not your cell phone. I bet that your Cherry Life can connect and browse the internet when using a different Wi-Fi network. Pulling the power cable from the router for a few minutes and then rebooting your Android will often help to fix that type of issue.

It does see other routers at nearby homes…just not mine! So, how do you troubleshoot something like this? Do some smartphones have problems with older B or G routers? I was thinking about upgrading to at least N to take advantage of better bandwidth, especially for Netflix, but I would hate to fork out for a new router only to possibly encounter the same problem. You are correct my friend, this guide is geared towards trying to solve Wi-Fi issues on Android smartphones and I myself have not had the opportunity to troubleshoot a smartphone running off of the Windows OS Operating System for a few years now.

So I am a little rusty as far as Windows cell phones go but let me toss you some possible causes and things that you might be able to consider when trying to find the proper solution to your current problem.

I am assuming that it has never been able to locate or connect to your home Wi-Fi before. I doubt that this issue is a result of you using a Wireless G router as Wireless G is still one of the most common wireless standards in use today.

From your very well written comment it does sound like it might be an issue with your router, but again its odd as your phone cannot even see it to try and connect to it. Out of curiosity have you tried to manually enter your network details into your phone to see if it would find it and connect? Make sure to try that as well as it might just be the trick that you are looking for.

I hope that helps Joe. Good luck, and if there is anything else that I can try and help you with just let me know. Thanks for the reply, James. I did indeed try to enter the SSID manually, but it still did not connect. Well, I decided to just go with the new router, figuring it would help some with our Netflix hiccups on my Samsung Blu-ray player. Guess what? I should have just gone with Linksys in the first place.

I am glad to hear that everything is back up and running properly again. Thank you very much for the follow-ups by the way. I am sure that someone else who visits this page can benefit from your discovery. Could not connect through internet in my college I tried to connect through Wifi in my college but it does not connect after all method I came to know that my password is right all the laptops connect but not my android phone then I ask to friend the same problem was with them and then I get to know that no one is able to connect there android phone to WiFi network in college… Where as all other is phone get connected like lumia , iPhone, Java phone but not android phone….

Please tell me brother how to fix this problem. That is a very odd issue. If I was in your place then I would track down the network administrator for your college and ask him for a few minutes of his time. Let him know that you and other people are having issues connecting with your Android smartphones and ask him what might be causing it. If he is unsure ask him to help you setup a Static IP address in order to establish a more direct connection to the Wi-Fi network.

He should know all of the information associated with your schools network and can probably help you set everything up in a matter of minutes. Try to pay attention to what he or she ends up doing to get your phone setup properly, that way you can help your friends setup and connect their Android devices as well.

I bet they would be very happy and grateful to use the schools Wi-Fi instead of using the internet from their mobile data. Should I send my phone to a technician?

Tried turning off the device, power cycling, and even factory resetting to no avail. It cannot detect other WiFi networks as well. Is there anything else I can do from my end to fix this or should I get this thing checked? From your description, which was very well written by the way, it does sound like there might be some physical damage or some kind of hardware related issue on your Sony cell phone. After all of the troubleshooting that you have already done at this point I think that you will need to look into your repair options which would include having your cell phone looked at by a qualified technician to see if the malfunction part can be replaced or if it can be repaired.

Sorry to hear about your cell phone Melsie, good luck and if there is anything else I can do to try and help just let me know. I thought I would let you know what cured it for me in case it could help others. I have a new Prestigio Duo running Android 4. I am new to Android or any smartphone for that matter — this is my first! Eventually I went into System Settings then clicked on Wifi. This shows all the networks nearby.

At the bottom left of the screen there is an odd sign of 2 arrows forming a circle like chasing their tails is the only way I can describle it! I did that and immediately the Wifi came to life and I had all bars up!! I was so excited! Hope this is helpful to someone else. Nice contribution Jo Ball! Very nice. You posted a pretty good description as well. I knew exactly what you were talking about and I am sure other readers will too.

Another thumbs up to you my friend. As long as all of the devices that you are trying to connect to your wireless network support the WPS standard that is.

It was, and is, one of the major security flaws affecting wireless routers that use the WPS PIN feature a common feature enabled by default on many modern routers. I seem to have a weird combination of all these issues above in your article. My phone had been working fine on my home wifi until just a few days ago when it could not connect to my home wifi.

However the next morning it was working fine. As my internet had been dropping out every so often I decided to call my ISP. We did a few tricks changed the channel the wifi router operated on and it seemed to work. I tested my connection speed and it was indeed very slow. I rang the ISP again and we did some other tricks changed the channel again I think and tested the speed and it looked fine. My phone was back on again too. But sure enough soon it was booted off again.

This was becoming very frustrating. I would watch my wifi try to connect on my phone and it would try to obtain an IP but never get past that stage. A google search reveals many of others are having similar issues, going way back to None of these things worked. My phone can connect to the wifi at work no problem, so it is clearly an issue between my phone and my router.

The last few days I have been able to forget the network and it eventually reconnects, but the internet connection is very, very slow. I am close to my wits end here and I am probably going to have to try a factory reset of my phone… what do you think?

Last week my Samsung Galaxy S3 4G would not connect to my home wifi. My next plan is to do a factory reset of my Netgear router or my phone.

Neither are all that attractive but I am pretty sure it is an issue between these two devices. I think you are right, it does sound like an issue between the cell phone and your specific router. Especially since your phone can connect to the Wi-Fi at your work without any issues.

You said that you already tried all of the advice listed in the article above, except for the factory data reset, but I just want to make sure that you tried setting up a Static IP address as well. It may help create a stronger connection between your phone and router allowing them to stay connected with one another. My problem is something else Hello. Thanks for your perfect article.

I read it totally and it seemed that the best solution to my problem is to reset my mobile phone. And I did it but the problem still exists. When my mobile phone scans wifi connections this message appears below my wifi name: secured with WEP.

When I try to get access to it and I enter the password it shows this message for a few seconds: connecting… but then it disappears and I see this message: saved, secured with WEP. And the wifi icon does not appear on the status bar.

And I reset it and even lost some data!! Help me please. Wish all the best. Another reader had a very similar issue with their smartphone and I think that you might find my reply to his comment helpful in resolving this Wi-Fi issue on your cell phone.

Connected to the internet yet keeps coming up network error I have a Vodafone smart 3 and this is the second time the wifi has gone wrong on me. The first time I went in about the problem they gave me a new sim and it somehow fixed itself after a few minutes. But this time I put in an sd card about a week ago and it started not to work , I got it up working again by turning it off numerous times and taking out and putting back in the sd card and sim card..

When a smartphone refuses to connect to Wi-Fi or the internet, things can get pretty frustrating. Thanks for the detailed description by the way. The more information that I have to work with the less guesswork is involved. Ok… there were some parts of your description that sounded odd to me. The first part is that a new SIM was able to help. From that part of your description I am leaning towards more of a general internet issue as opposed to an issue with the internet when connected solely through Wi-Fi.

I suppose I can see how an SD card MIGHT have a negative effect on the phones connection as there may have been something on the card causing mischief but that situation is kind of rare; possible but uncommon. As per the last part of your post when you mention that your cell phone is connected to Wi-Fi but no internet.

This is my biggest hint and possibly the best clue to try and resolve your problem. If this is the case you will need to follow the advice listed at trying to fix the Internet on an Android smartphone. I think this might just be what you are looking for.

Unfortunately it turned out to be the phone itself and I brought it back to the shop ,as it is only a few weeks old. They said it would all have to be repaired which would cost me 80 euro..

Anyways looks like saving and a new phone for me same phone again but at least it will have wifi!! All hail the internet. No problem Chloe Young, I am glad that you were able to get your problem resolved with minimal hassle.

Thanks for coming back to the site to post a follow up Chloe, I appreciate it. Enjoy your new phone and its working Wi-Fi. All hail the glorious internet. I still get the message authentication failed or association rejected. I cannot stress enough when it comes to authentication issues to make absolutely sure that the password you are using to log into the wireless network is correct.

Do you have any issues logging into other Wi-Fi networks; preferably a secured network? What Android smartphone are you having this problem with and what version of Android is it running on? Has your phone ever successfully connected to this Wi-Fi network before?

Andriod running on it is 4. I have connected to this wifi before. And am very sure its the phone because I have a galaxy S3 and its able to connect to the same wifi. But I think my only option is to change the phone. Thanks for all your help. Other than the airplane mode trick what else have you tried when attempting to get your Wi-Fi connected and working properly?

Many other readers asked some really good questions and you might find those posts helpful as well. I am operating on a Samsung Galaxy S3 and have recently been attempting to connect to a wi-fi router in a new location in a state in which I am visiting relatives. My phone finds the router no problem.

I click it and am asked if I want to connect. The phone prompts me to enter the password, I do so and the phone does next to nothing. I have seen the problem mentioned briefly on several forums but I have not seen any resolution to said problem.

You left a good description, it was very clear. Have you done anything else to try to get it to connect? From your well written comment and description it sounds like just a hiccup on your network. Dang, I really thought that would work.

These types of things can often be the reason for such issues as they can selectively choose to deny access to the internet for certain programs or Applications like your Clash of Clans game while allowing others apps to connect and work just fine. Turning the Flight mode on Turning the Flight mode on then connecting to wifi solved the authentication error for me!

That is possibly my next step so I can get my husband to buy me a new phone. I work from home and on the road a lot and my phone is how I accept Payments. In places with only 2g network like my home town I need to hit a wifi but this phone refuses to find a wifi. I have checked the airplane mode and I even downloaded the app from your page to see if that would work. Nothing has worked.

You are NOT alone my friend. Wi-Fi issues and general smartphone issues like these can be extremely frustrating, and there can be many different causes and many different solutions. I have personally seen a few different circumstances where tapping or hitting a phone against a hard surface has in fact, briefly, resolved a few different types of hardware issues. Once I saw it with a malfunction internal speaker, once with a bad cell phone camera.

Unfortunately the internal speaker issue was so constant that the user of the phone damaged the phone one day in frustration because he hit it a little too hard which lead to even more frustration as he was unable to file a warranty claim on the phone as it had signs of physical damage.

So, let me ask you a few questions and hopefully we can narrow down the reason and the best solution available for you and your LG cell phone. Does your cell phone see the Wi-Fi networks when scanning but it just refuses to connect or will it not find them or recognize them at all? I also assume that your cell phone connected to Wi-Fi and worked properly until recently? Has your LG been giving you any error messages? How long have you had your cell phone?

Are there any signs of liquid or physical damage? I have had the phone for about a year but no warranty left on it. When it comes to the wifi. No physical damage either. Except for on the top left corner of the case where I dropped it a couple weeks ago. I doubt that it was anything that you did, if it never worked to begin with then it may have been defective right from the start.

Connecting and using the Wi-Fi feature on an Android smartphone is pretty user friendly, assuming that everything is working correctly of course. Your right though, you should be able to switch on your Wi-Fi, scan for available networks, tap on the network you want to connect to, enter the password or security details if required , and it should connect.

The weird thing about your issue is that your phone lets you switch your Wi-Fi on. It will just remain off, switch itself off immediately after trying to turn it on, or remain grayed out and not respond at all, or it will be missing entirely. If you need to have a working internet connection through Wi-Fi on your smartphone which I myself would certainly fall into this category even though I have an unlimited data plan with my wireless carrier than I would look into possible repair options or start asking your husband very nicely to buy you a different one.
